I rearranged the math as follows:

d1 := math.vec.dist(scene.my.s,pos);
d2 := math.vec.dist(scene.my.s2,pos);
a1 := (sim.time * 10 - d1) * scene.my.a;
a2 := (sim.time * 10 - d2) * scene.my.a;
c1 := 0.5*(sin(a1) + 1);
c2 := 0.5*(sin(a2) + 1);
color = [0, 1, 0, c1 + c2 - scene.my.b]

but the scene ran slightly slower.

I posted the math here to help users understand how the math works.
