Try to do a 5 stroke 3 piston engine. it has a similar effect only that the two cylinders at the edges burn fuel and the center, bigger piston receives the exhaust, that cools and generates torque like a Stirling

This concept is very rarely used in ic engines. It was more commonly used in steam engines to re-expand steam above liquification pressure which would then increase efficiency if we dig into Carnot's law :lol:
