Just a little queston: Wouldn't the front wheel go faster because it has a smaller sprocket than the rear wheel?
Because both wheels are bound to the ground, neither wheel would go faster. One would have more torque then the other but neither would be able to go faster because whichever one has more force would simply nudge to other wheel along.
Oh dear, that thing could impossibly move if the wheels had infinite friction xD
@Phun User They can roll, but only if the right wheel slides a bit, since it spins faster than the left one.
Want to make it easier? Put the simulation at 10000 Hz and make it to show the total force. It does a lot of weird things, those are the artifacts of using 511 axles for the chain :|
I actually used the chain tool for that. I used the custom chain option.
So if that is an artifact for mine, it is an artificat in general because I used algodoo's chain technology to draw that. I simply just made something with two axles, right clicked it and said use as custom chain. Nothing special or no trickery here!
And if you really wanted to make it simple, check the show total energy(sum) of the entire system and see if it grows! Obviously if it grew, it would automatically be breaking the first and second laws of thermodynamics. And of course this one is on a positive slope.
There's no chain technology in Algodoo, because Algodoo uses axles and boxes to generate a chain. The chain tool only replicates the bonds but it also adds hingeConstant. Try to make one without the tool (aka by hand, copying the bonds). I'm not saying that it won't work but it may behave differently. also use new axles, DON'T COPY these axles
If I really had the time I would just make tiny ball bearings with friction and connect them as a chain. But that would make many thousands of pieces to this.
You could use a real Sprocket and Chain.
S-noonan. I really am impressed with your sprocket and chain. The one thing I would like to point out is that a roller chain not only has hinges to connect the two pieces together, but has a free rolling center where the sprocket connects to. Your roller chain would operate a whole lot smoother if you would make a free rolling circle where it actually collides with the sprocket. If a roller chain did not have that free rolling center that collides with the sprockets teeth, it would be a lot less practical to convert torque and would be a lot more grinding then the chain was worth. Please consider this design flaw in your amazing setup.
