Most people don't realize that many modern skyscrapers actually have tuned mass dampers in them.

That's pretty neat. I'd read about buildings having those in earthquake prone areas but didn't actually know how they worked until now.

Tuned mass dampers aren't just for earthquakes, they also operate in high winds, There are a few interesting videos of the TMD in Taipei 101 in Typhoon Soudelor on youtube.
