This is a guidance component, but it is not in fact a gyroscope. It is a reaction wheel. Follow this link [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaction_wheel] to see what you actually built. A gyroscope is used for determining orientation and angular velocity and a reaction wheel is used for changing orientation and angular velocity.

Hope I cleared up any confusion! it would make sense to change the title too.
