Rings around planets are formed by orbiting asteroids. There are so many asteroids that they all appear to be a single ring. Sometimes there are small spaces between rings. This is usually where a moan orbits, and asteroids that get too close get sucked up by the moon, which creates an empty band around the moon's orbit.
