there are thousands, upon thousands of objects on the soloar system that could extinct us in seconds. Take asteroids, some are in safe and predicatble orbits, but, there could be an asteroid that we dint't detect yet, for example, once an asteroid flew 10 x closer that the moon is to us in its closest aproach. We only detected it two weeks before its closest encounter. Just two weeks, thats a short time to prepare ourselves and protect humanity. But there is more, there are thousands of asteroids, whose orbits are highly inclined and eccentric, we are currently tracking like a couple hundred, but there could be thousands more
