Although tidally locked to Jupiter (always facing it with the same side, like our moon) Io experiences enormous tidal forces because of the eccentricity of it´s orbit. These forces raise the ground up to 300m and are the cause of geological acitivity that makes Io the most vulcanicly active object in our solar system with 120-150 active volcanos.
Pressing "i" you can observe the elliptical deformation of Io when getting closer to Jupiter during a revolution. (Of cource nothing is to scale or we wouldn´t see much of it. Io´s trajectory is far more "circle"-shaped in reality as well.)

Excellent demonstration! I would not want to spend my vacation time on Io!:lol:
There are much wiser choices for relaxing indeed. Most of them are probably found on earth :y
Yo this is cool, how did you get Io to be tidally locked?
this is awesome
specially when io becomes egg:o
@Cusy_2
Io isn´t really tidally locked in my simulation because the trajoctory is far too eccentric (far more than in reality), but it´s possible if do the following:
1. place any object in the orbit of another (bigger) one.
2. spongify your object (and give any amount of rotation speed)
3. after sent into the (circular) orbit the parts of the spongified objects will rub against each other --> eventually the rotation speed will decrease until it matches exactly the revolution around the gravitational center (= tidally locked).
