Inspired by the book from Andy Weir with it´s reasonably in depth physics analysis of different situations and motivated by its movie adaptation coming to theaters this year (2026) I intend to create scenes centered around some of these situations. I highly recommend reading the book nonetheless.

Context:
W-
hile orbiting the Planet Adrian the spaceship "Hail Mary" has an unintentional eccentric ("elliptical") trajectory and dips into the planets atmosphere at its lowest point (perigee).

Physics:
This scene explores what happens to the spaceship thats slightly touching a planets atmosphere (just like our satelites do). Air friction is calculated taking the barometric altitude formula into account (air density decreases exponentially with distance from a planets surface)
