2D differential.
A simple vehicle built with a differential between the front and rear wheels.
The diff has a few benefits over a solid drive system in such a crude vehicle.;
It allows power to be distributed to both wheels while allowing each wheel to rotate at a different speed when required, making fast movement over gental slopes, and slow movement over very rugged terrain much smoother.
Expanding on the previous point; one or both wheels of the vehicle is off the ground and makes contact again, they are able to change speed accordingly upon contact while still providing drive line power. Thus allowing a slightly smoother landing with the wheels spinning than there would be if they were driven directly.

Side note: There is intentional resistance in rotation for all the spider gears. Allows the wheel in contact to the ground to maintain power ever when the other wheel is off the ground and free to rotate, all though it will be at a lower RPM than if both were in contact.
This version is slightly messy, and quite large. I am currently making a MUCH smaller, smoother version.
A sim.frequency of 500 or higher is required. |
