So this is one of the concepts for a CVT gearbox. This two green "cones" have diffrent diameter on it's ends and constant gap between them. They are connected by a roller that transfer power to the output cone. Roller "picks" surface speed from input cone (which is angular velocity * radius of input cone) and transfer it to output cone (again angular velocity * radius). Since radius is diffrent angular velocity changes.

Unfortunatley it cannot transfer much torque, but it's fun to watch:)

Haha It came to my head yesterday when I was thinking how to simulate "cones" in Phun:)

I made many gearboxes (most of them are barely working), but never this type like you did 2 and a half years ago:)

I've done some calculations and this type of gearbox is useless in real-life applications, since it's friction based and has very low contact area surface forces would destroy it in minutes (like an overloaded bearing...) It was thousands of N on two rollers just to transfer 100Nm from typical small car engine...

I have some other ideas for CVT, or rather torque converter using impulses to preload springs, that's next thing I want to do, but now I'm wasting my time instead of learning math for exams, so maybe tommorow:)
