In this simulation of three common auto-loading functions, we will cover how they work. press enter/return to fire
Gas: in real life, the expanding gases are siphoned off into a gas port, where they force the bolt carrier rearward. the remaining pressure drives the bolt assembly back. in ALGODOO, however, there are no gases, so the gas pressures are simulated mechanically
Blow-back: the bolt is never locked, and the rearward energy from the explosion as a result of newton's third law of motion opens the bolt and ejects the shell
Recoil (short): the bolt and barrel are both dynamic components, and when in battery, are locked together. similar to blow-back, the force of the round going off puts the bolt into rearward motion. HOWEVER, to bring the gases to a safe level before the breech opens, the barrel moves back a certain distance with the bolt, until the gases are at a safe level |
