Well, heah, because you can't have a 10000 RPM spawnengine in Algodoo (and if you build one that goes that fast, PLEEZ SHOW MEH). My best piston engines top out at about 1200 rpm and rotaries can sometimes go a little faster. I've seen some very exotic rotating-box-piston engines that top out at almost 1600 rpm but they're totally impractical.
It basically increases the ratio if the engine gets going too fast then decreases it if the engine goes too slow. It's got a limiter so the gears don't get too big and I also added a system that varies the ratio increase rate so it works smoother. You can dissect the code if you want. technically it's portable from scene to scene but you will need to declare scene.my.gear first, or it breaks. Otherwise I managed to control pretty much the whole thing with a _variable and the engine's speed.
Did you build this to collect your prize from the animation contest?
This was buried under 3 pages of algicosathlon when I found it. This needs to be on popular
I like the suspension. It works very well. The gearbox has issues though, like you said. I'd say the jump between 2nd and 3rd gear is too steep, and the engine will often stall. Could I add a better gearbox and post it as a response or something?
I have to side with Xray again. I said this a billion times already, but why not we add a second group which only quality users can post in and can be filtered from all the other crap scenes?
Good job. I only have a few things to say, try and make your bodywork more like mine with more gradients and things. I might publish a tutorial on complete carbody making if I have some spare time.
No road car rides this low. If this were a real car, the underside would get scraped up on any rock more than about 5 inches tall
Lastly, why did you only use 2 cylinders? I would have used 4 personally.
Vaidas has a point here. I think this division idea has been visited multiple times. It's a good idea but it's never been seriously considered by Algoryx.
Maybe we could start a petition, which the users of algodoo would sign. Then if it gets enough votes/signatures then Algobox would get cut in half.
I actually thought about starting a private website that I would run where quality scenes could get posted, and anyone who builds marble races would be kicked out immediately or simply not allowed to join at all. I figured Algoryx wouldn't like this, so I didn't do it.
Vaidas, you should start making awesome cars again. I've been the only one making them for a while, and not having any strong competition gets really annoying....
I bet spaceClaim is more targeted toward companies like Xray said. Usually what the guys I know do is just make something in Blender and then port it into some other 3d physics engine, like Unity or something. I don't do that myself, but it looks cool though.
