You don't need to use use a spring, use shift to draw a straight line with the brush tool and select the line you made, go to "collision layers" and uncheck EVERYTHING. Then put an axle on both ends or it will fall away.

The closest you can get to compressed air on algodoo is compressed water in a vacuum with zero gravity.
