"small scripting tip
for friction you can write +inf in the friction box to get infinite friction !:)"
Thanks, I'll try that
Well, it has a very basic gearbox, but more than one gear would be better. I need to learn more about scripting first so I can build a good gearbox
sorry, I forgot to post the controls

Thanks, too bad there isn't any concept of thermodynamics in algodoo, because then this could be a working model.
This is pretty cool, but for some reason gears 2 & 3 do not seem to speed it up. Maybe it's geared to high and not enough friction on the gears? Or it's also possible I'm doing something wrong
Thanks, it also doesn't have a pressure release valve, because as you can see when the valve is closed and the pump is on, it just keeps pumping and building pressure. I'm pretty sure in real life this would cause the engine, or whatever powering the pump, to stall.
normally the pump would run in reverse of what mine is running, and oil would go around the outside of the gears, then the gears would mesh well in the center to not allow fluid to come back through, correct? In that case I'm not sure if that would work in algodoo, because I don't think the gears would mesh properly, and it would start pumping in reverse, similar to how mine pumps.
Ya I know, that was my original design. But unfortunately the lasers don't collide with the pistons when they are boxes.
thanks, I'll try that
sure
you can adjust the density of the spawned circles in the laser options menu. If you increase it it will put out more power.
thanks, at one point I actually increased the attraction of the two blue circles to around 50,000 nm^2/kg^2 and it put out an incredible amount of power but it became unstable when it wasn't under load, because it would reach >2,000rpm. So I found that 10,000 is around it's limit.
Ya, when I went to build it I knew it wouldn't work, but I figured I'd try it anyway
Thanks, I was trying to think of a way to make it so you select the place with the left/right arrow keys, but couldn't think of any way. This way works fine, just not as intuitive as I'd like.

EDIT: I uploaded a better and more reliable version of my earlier quick connect system http://www.algodoo.com/algobox/details.php?id=66556
It has the same controls

No problem, but I would use the second version of this, it uses variables which work a lot better.
You can use friction= inf+ instead of using large numbers for the wheels and transmission, etc.
It doesn't seem to work in v2.0.2 either
Thanks, ya I googled it and it looks like it is a scotch yoke. Unfortunately some parts require a high density so it weighs a ridiculous amount, but maybe I'll make a better version of it soon
The plane is a killer, and I did originally have a killer directly in back, but I didn't really notice much of a performance difference. I'll probably add that and update the scene.
Thanks, ya I think when it's running there can be around 800-1000 particles in the engine, and if you delete the frequency changer it can improve framerate a little bit.
Thanks, I originally built the linkage as just a model of Cebyshev's drawing linkage, but then realized that it would work great for a walking machine/device.
Thanks, there is an options box for the axles that power it, and you can adjust the speed of the walker by adjusting the speed of those 8 axles.
So you used Gent's spring engine, and now you're using my gear drive thing? Not that I really care that much, but you should give credit to people if you use their stuff.
Thanks, I did make everything somewhat transparent, just not completely invisible because it's nice to be able to see how it works.
Oh, well it must not be very common because the first time I saw one based on variable spring lengths was in your newest VW car scene
Thanks, I'll try that
Good job, the smoke effect looks pretty cool. I think the locking mechanism needs to be a higher density though, because sometimes the bucket just pops off. I messed around with it and 20kg/m^2 for the four rectangles that hold the bucket on worked pretty well.
I updated it so that now it beats your new bot.
I looked back at the rules and I'm not sure if negative attraction qualifies as "any other stuff" haha.
