Ray is a minimalist action sidescroller in which you play as a blue rectangle with a laser strapped to it.
This is more of a demo-ish thing, because I wanted to see if there's any interest in this before I start putting huge amounts of effort into it (I noticed a few very similar games like this in Algobox.) I've only made one level so far, because while the system I'm using for making them allows for WAY for flexibility and complexity than the levels in my other game (Dot), it makes creating levels slightly harder and much more tedious.
BUGS/ANNOYING THINGS I'M ALREADY AWARE OF:
-Your health indicator can sometimes slip behind the level
-It's impossible to shoot straight down
Any suggestions/criticism/whatever will be appreciated in the comments!
NOTE:
I had a few people complaining of performance issues in Dot, so I tried my best to optimize this better. In Ray, levels are loaded into and out of the game as you reach them, rather than all at once. While this method is vastly superior for framerate (I will ALWAYS try to keep it >= 30 fps), it has one major drawback: It may be possible for Algodoo to suddenly run out of memory and crash upon loading a level. I have never experienced this, however I'm using a relatively ridiculously powerful computer, so if you experience ANY crashes, for the love of all known deities please write it in the comments so I can fix it. |
