That's not a new idea. It's known as "Gray Code". Google it!
I tend to invent things that were already invented without knowing it! Like the time I wondered if you could attach a pressurised container of air to an engine instead of relying on the force of the atmosphere to push new air in and that was thought of already too
And the not-really-useful concept of a fractal spring such that each full loop of the spring is actually another spring curled into a circle. It's difficult to explain, but looking up "Jerobeam Fenderson Spirals" on YouTube will lead you to where I found it.
