this is no glitch. two things can't be inside each other, so they shoot apart. about 1/2 of phunbox uses this principle. the perpindicular boxes are not crossing in the exact center, so they shoot to the side.

yeah, the up/down row isn't in the center of the bricks it intersects, so it shoots sideways.
It only appears to suddenly blast out. What's actually happening is that each block is bouncing off the one closer to the center like you'd expect. It looks like a sudden burst because as the blocks separate from each other, the number of contacts in the scene suddenly drops and it stops lagging.

want to see the oposite of this glitch? make a plane and put a box in the air that weighs 42305782340957239084569276519756918437562943856729­83465892345629874562876345932 pounds! the box sinks in because it's too heavy to shoot up!
Ok since nobody here seems to now exacty what is happening here it is:
this happens because in the begining the energy from the blocks pushing out on each other fills all the little gaps (which also causes more lag because of all of thos collisions, but that doesnt hav much to do with it). Then when all the little gaps are filled th rest of the energy that still needs to escape takes the easiest route, which is still up, causing the 'second blast'
that is the fully explained reason
