I made those changes to the script as shown in your comment, but there's one detail that doesn't look quite right. That is, the lateral velocity of the flyer is constant regardless of how fast forward he is moving. I think it would be more realistic if the lateral velocity would track the forward velocity. I tried to make that edit but no matter what I do, it just doesn't work quite right. If you know what needs to be altered for the scene to work that way, could you please point me in the right direction for that to work?
