If the person changes direction on the stairs more than once, the stairs get into a condition where a step is at its max height and its adjacent step is at its min height which makes the distance between the two steps too far for the person to walk up the stairs.

Except for that, your ball-point pen clicker mechanism works perfectly.

Thanks. Yes, I'm not sure how to handle that problem. Also, there is a problem if a second person follows the first person up or down the stairs. Maybe there needs to be a sensor that detects the direction of the user and presets the stair accordingly.
