So?

Algodoo 2.1.0 is quite old, so I'm not very surprised it runs on Windows XP!

im surprised anything even works lol, i had expected it to run really poorly because... most of my virtual machines do

I have an old ThinkJet lap-top running Win-XP. It still runs older versions of some popular apps but when I download the newer versions, it can't handle it and just freezes! I hate to just toss it out, so I let my grandkids play with it.

I was born a year before Windows 7 came out, and my parents tell me that when I was born they used Windows XP!

I can't remember that far back (I don't think most people can :<) but I can remember seeing Windows 7 quite frequently when I was a baby!

I used Windows 7 for the first half of my "bratty" phase, but eventually in 2020 I switched to Linux because i thought I was "too cool for windows".
I'm so glad I'm not like that anymore...
(On that note by the way, please take everything I said before 2023 with a grain of salt, especially on Algobox and related sites.
I was super judgemental, thought I knew everything, and thought I was just "so cool".)

I use Windows 11 nowadays. I tried Linux again this year because I was fixated on computer viruses and was terrified of my computer getting hacked, but after the fixation died I switched back to Windows 11.

Windows 8 is my all-time favorite operating system, with Windows 10 and 7 in 2nd and 3rd.

Windows 11 seems like it's getting better, but who knows. In the first few years Windows 10 was out, everyone I knew hated it -- and look at it now!




Sorry for going on this rant about operating systems. They're just another weird obsession of mine

I'm old enough to remember when Windows first came out. Before Windows, computers used a command-line system, and the operating system was called "DOS" (Disk Operating System). We had no fancy icons to click on because all commands were text based. When the first version of Windows came out, I arrogantly mocked it as a crutch for non-technical people. I was a software engineer back then, and so in my cocky brain Windows was for "simple minded" people. Well, after I used Windows for some time, I realized how awesome it was over the old command-line system of computer control and storage functions. I fell in love with it and, after some time, I never wanted to go back to the old ways of doing things!

Something I still find really interesting is that, before Windows XP, consumer versions of Windows were actually just (a LOT of) programs running over DOS!


All of this talk makes me want to buy some sort of 6502 hobby computer. Making an operating system sounds so fun!

Funny you mentioned that. I had a 6502 hobby computer beck in my younger days. I thought it was so cool when I learned how to make images with ASCII text characters! In fact there are a few scenes on Algobox that were made with text characters. Below is a link to one that I made a few years ago:
