Did you try turning off air friction.
But none the less, it was ingenious.

thanks for the reply - yeah I tried turning off both the air and gravity - turning off the air helped but only slightly and turning off the gravity really bummed things up - seems that a pendulum actually needs gravity to work - go figure!!!
