I was inspired by Neon-Ix's Cassette Tape "V2" scene, not to try to out-do him (the detail in his scene is much better than mine) but just because of the technical challenge of making the reels move in a realistic manner. There are a few other cassette tape scenes on Algobox, and none of them that I have seen actually change the diameter of the reels as the tape winds from one reel to the other. My scene is not very accurate as far as speeds and diameters are concerned, but I just wanted to make something that looks fairly realistic. Let me know how you like it (or don't like it).

Edit: I did find one other scene in which the diameters of the reels change as the "tape" moves from one reel to the other. Unfortunately, the tape looks more like rope or chain!

Remix Tape Cassette

UPDATE: Corrected speed of the driving (powered) reel during FF and RW modes. Before, the speed was variable depending on the diameter of the tape coil on the reel, but that was not correct. The rotational speed of the powered reel should be constant, and the speed of the idler reel should change depending on the amount of tape on it. Also, changed the word "RUN" to "PLAY".

Thanks.
Cassette tapes typically run at 1.875 inches per second. The driven reel is driven fast enough so that it reels up the tape faster than the capstan and pinch roller are supplying it (even when just starting, which is the worst case). The driven reel has a slip clutch that allows for overdriving. Since the tape moves at a constant speed, the area of the circles representing the tape on the driver and the driven spools should increase or decrease their areas at a fixed rate. The angular velocity of the reels should be the tape speed divided by the reel (circle) radius ((in/s)/(in/radian) = radians/sec).

P.S. "Play" is described above. For FF and RW, the driver reel tape circle radius grows at a constant rate. The driven reel tape circle area is the total tape area (which is constant) minus the driver reel circle area. The driver angular velocity is fixed. The driven angular velocity is the tape speed (driver angular velocity * driver radius) divided by the driven radius.

s_noonan - I had a feeling you were going to pick apart my inaccurate delta diameters and reel speeds. As I mentioned in the description, I was not concerned with accuracy when I made it. I just wanted to make a cassette that was "visually believable". Please be my guest if you would like to improve it or embellish it.

Thanks for the critique.

Yes, it does look realistic. The only thing I noticed is the tape changes from brown to black when going from reel to reel. Also, there are probably only a few of us that remember "Realistic" (Radio Shack) cassette tapes.
Xray Youre an admin right? Do you delete my ferrari racing contest? if you do why?
The tape looks like a car wheel
s_noonan - It's SUPPOSED to change color as the tape moves from one reel to the other. After all, it was made by Realistic!

Thecareditior - Yes, I did delete your announcement scene. And the reason was for: READ THIS!
Xray dude, I viewed your scenes man, they are "SWEET". I found my algodoo father!

Thecareditior -- It's perfectly Okay to make a contest. Just announce it in the Algodoo Forum on the "Contests" page here --> CONTESTS
Neon-Ix -- Sorry, but I can assure you that I am not your father. Your mother will confirm that what I say is true.
