That arrangement of springs "looks" like it shouldn't work the way that it does. It's counter-intuitive to me! And I would assume that the device's accuracy and precision are greatly dependent on the type, shape, stiffness, and other mechanical factors of all three springs.

I play guitar (not especially well) and I can see a possible use for this device to keep the strings in tune.

It would be interesting to find a few "real world" examples of this spring arrangement being used.

Excellent work on the scene, s_noonan!
Thanks xray, this scene is similar to my Zero Stiffness scene.

Q: I would assume that the device's accuracy and precision are greatly dependent on the type, shape, stiffness, and other mechanical factors of all three springs.
A: The vertical spring rate needs to be 2X the horizontal spring rate and the horizontal spring free length needs to be the distance from the anchor point to the center pivot.
Yes, I remember your "Zero Stiffness" scene. I found it to be quite interesting and surprising how it works, just like your latest spring mechanism scenes. Thanks for posting them because I learn something new each time!
