@Kilinich: when I watched the video I noticed something:
The engine burns fuel to create electricity.
The electricity is used to power an electric motor.

So, the rad/s don't have to be high, because the engine is only used to generate electricity.

I think it is a stupid concept, why burn fuel if you are using electricity to power the car. Sure the car is lighter because there are no battery packs and it burns less fuel than a normal car, but still you are burning fuel = co2 emission. If you powered the car with electricity from battery packs, you could generate that electricity with for example a solar panel. Which would be much cleaner compared to burning fuel.

2Banjerboef Design isn't stuped, because engine always work in optimal condition and you don't need gearbox at all. But there are a lot of other things makes this car and engine looks stuped.

@Kilinich: I don't think the design is stupid because of the gearbox and such (in fact I think it looks pretty cool and also a bit like a rotary engine).

But I do think that the fact that you are burning fuel to generate electricity is pretty stupid.
It's like driving around with a portable diesel generator they normally use to power things like a big circus.

If people want to power an electric car, I don't think they should use an engine to provide the power needed but use solar panels instead. It's cheaper and cleaner.

I don't say or think that the design is stupid, just the concept of having an engine to generate electricity for a car.

All train diesel engines do that. Not stupid, just need to be used in proper way.

It's all about not letting the oil companies loose money on the environment question! To fool the people to think that this car is much better for the environment than regular fossil fuel burners. To satisfy the rich in simple terms

2 Kilinich: Thanks for the video link. I can see that the spark is fixed relative to the engine frame. In your model the spark happens at various rotational positions. Maybe it is a diesel engine. A video that shows one configuration for spark plug, intake, and exhaust ports can be seen here:

@Kilinich: for trains a diesel generator is fine, because it provides electricity for trains so they can go to places where there is no electricity.
For construction sites it is fine too, but for cars it isn't.

It's like Top Gear's "Hammerhead Eagle i Thrust", an electric car with a diesel generator in the back. It works, you can drive for a long time, but the idea is just silly. If you are having a diesel generator to provide the electricity, the car won't be a hybrid anymore. It will be an electric car causing polution and without tax (because the diesel generator doesn't power the car directly, it only generates the needed electricity).

A car that continually accelerates (such as in a crowded city) will burn a lot more fuel, and release more pollution. A hybrid doesn't have this problem since the engine will always be running at the optimal speed. So in a situation where there is a lot of starting and stopping, electric cars have the advantage in terms of efficiency.

@Ravenplucker: Sure for crowded city's it would be ideal.
But what if everybody goes on a vacation in the Alps.
It's summer, so there is plenty of sunlight.
So, solar panels would be an more ideal solution in that situation.

Thus maybe a combination of both the Yo-engine and solar panels would be the best option.

But I think solar panels still work the best, but that's my opinion.

2Banjerboef here in Russia... forget about solar panels. You will be fkn bored to clear it from snow in winter and from dirt in any other season

Now you're moving the goalposts. You said that the whole concept was useless and stupid. When I counter with the obvious advantages, you just say "what if?"

Tell me, which is more likely?
1: You're driving to work on an average weekday
2: You're going on a vacation to the alps.



A car with solar panels has a whole host of other problems, a hybrid is generally far more practical. Solar-powered cars suffer from absolutely atrocious acceleration; they produce a very small amount of torque. To offset this, solar powered cars must have a very large upward surface area, be very light, and be very aerodynamic. Good luck getting that up a steep hill.
